Court House
Alex
Last week Mr.Holmes' fifth graders walked across the street to the Court House. They learned what goes on in a courtroom. They met the court reporter, who takes notes of everything that happens in a courtroom. He put our names on a little pice of paper in a special way. They were also allowed to bang the gavel. Sounds like a fun time!
Figure Skating Show
Taija and Haylie
The Virginia Figure Skating performance is March 19th and 20th at the Miners. The theme is Grammy and Oscar Awards. Members of the Figure Skating club, which includes many Roosevelt students, have worked hard all year. The head coaches, Barb and Kristi, have created a great show. Some skaters skate every day, practicing many hours.

Sounds like everyone is putting in a lot of time to make this show happen!

Thank you to Taija and Haylie for this story. Good luck to everyone participating. Get out and see the show!
DARE Sliding Day
Brandi
This Saturday is DARE Family Sliding Day. It will take place at the Eveleth Curling Club sliding hill - right behind the Curling Club - from 11 to 2. There will be a bonfire, hot dogs, chips, and hot chocolate served. Kids of all ages are invited. Bring the whole family!
Sixth graders going to Giants' Ridge!

March 26 is the end of the third quarter. That leaves two and half weeks to finish up missing work, catch up on AR points, and get those grades up! It's hard to believe that our year is three quarters of the way finished!

There will be a PTA meeting at 5:00 on Tuesday, March 16.

Sixth graders are heading to Biwabik on Thursday for some skiing fun! They will spend the day on the slopes at Giants' Ridge.

With temperatures in the forties this week, I sure hope there is snow for them to ski on!

Book Review
Macie and Mia
In Mrs.Scheuring's class, students are participating in book clubs. They had about 5 choices by the author is Andrew Clements. Each group is reading the book together, discussing it, and making predictions. One of the choices was The School Story. It is about a girl named Natalie. She is writing a book about a cheater. She is trying to get it published by her mom because her mom is a publisher. But the interesting thing is, she doesn't want her mom to know that she wrote the book, so she made up a fake name. You'll have to read the book to find out whether Cassandra Day gets her book published!
Website Review
Aspen
Teachers and students, you can study your spelling words online - even take your spelling tests online! Spelling city dot com has several games to play that make studying spelling words more fun. Teachers just have to sign up and enter the words. The site is completely free. Mr. Negen's fourth grade class are frequent users of spelling city. They take all of their tests there - just put on your headphones and the computer will read the list, word by word. Just go to spelling city dot com or go to Mrs. Aune's website, Reading Links, then Spelling City. Enjoy!
